Gwyneth Paltrow
The Contagion Photo call and Film Premiere were held yesterday at the 68th Venice Film Festival. Gwyneth Paltrow and Matt Damondominated the proceedings at the event. This film is billed as a Horror/Thriller and does sound a good film, a sort of disaster movie with disease undertones focusing on that crazed human fear response called panic which has reached epidemic proportions on a global scale eating into the very fabric of society.

These films are quite chilling when properly done because this can and does happenand the thing is you can’t see the very thing that is causing the chaos, only the end result. . Directed by Steven Sodenbergh and with names including Matt Damon, Kate Winslet, Marion Cotillard, Gwyneth Paltrow and Laurence Fishburne. From the ground up this film looks to be a solid production with direction, plot and cast including 2 Oscar winners technically getting on the right track. What’s it all about and is it any good after all that?

The Plot:Contagion follows the rapid progress of a lethal airborne virus that kills within days. As the fast-moving epidemic grows, the worldwide medical community races to find a cure and control the panic that spreads faster than the virus itself. As the virus spreads around the world, ordinary people struggle to survive in a society coming apart.

Gone with the high brow Independent on this one considering the calibre of people involved with the film and surprisingly they had this too say.
As an action movie, Contagion passes muster. What it lacks is any infection of the subtlety or subtext you’d expect from a filmmaker of Soderbergh’s experience and reputation. Rating 2 stars Full Review:
But then again The Hollywood Reporter doesn’t agree and says this:

ReleaseThe film is scheduled to be commercially released on September 9, 2011. It was originally scheduled for October 21, 2011. That in itself is a good sign that the film is at least worth a look!
