Andy Murray carries the hopes of a whole nation on his shoulders as always to end the wilderness years in British tennis and claim that first British US Grand slam win since Fred Perry now the famous label who won the US Open way back in 1936.
To say he is under pressure is just a bit of an understatement . Andy Murray has had a new opponent to battle at the US Open and that’s rain. with two days solid rain delaying play Andy Murray now faces yet another new challenge of potentially having to play four matches in five days before he is able to life the trophy. Lovely!
With Thursday’s match now under his belt where Murray battled through the first of those four matches beating American wild card Donald Young 6-2 6-3 6-3 in just under two hours of play. Quite a significant victory this as Murray met this player only once before earlier this year and lost.
His next match in the Quarters is against John Isner, the massive American player ranked at World No28 who has one of the deadliest and most powerful serves currently in men’s tennis. It doesn’t end there, IF he wins this he possibly faces Nadal and then either Federer or Djokovicin the final. The media have quoted Murray as saying he is not thinking beyond Isner, that’s probably a good idea!
Murray had this to say about his first hurdle opponent Isner
“He’s got a huge serve and can hit big forehands and is a little bit erratic and doesn’t give you much rhythm,” Murray said.
The Mens event final result looks to be more set in stone with World Rankings deciding the final outcome, but this is Tennis and anything can happen. A Murray win certainly can’t be ruled out but it will be monumentally tough.and my personal view is he should beat Isner but after that it will be the same headline it’s always been with that Top 3 brick wall proving ever elusive to crack but he’s getting closer to achieving this every day and just has to keep going on, something that Murray has no problem in doing!.
